DEWA discusses cooperation opportunities with JBIC

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, DEWA, has discussed ways to build closer ties and explore investment opportunities with Japan Bank for International Cooperation, JBIC.

This came during the visit of a delegation of JBIC to the DEWA office in Dubai.

The delegation included Masayuki Yutani, Deputy Director, Division 3 (Project Finance in MENA) – Power and Water Finance Department, Infrastructure and Environment Finance Group, Kohei Toyoda, Director – Division 3 (Project Finance in MENA), Power and Water Finance Department, Infrastructure and Environment Finance Group, Naoki Tamaki, Chief Representative, Representative Office in Dubai, Shun Hanagata, Representative, Representative Office in Dubai, and Haitham Al Zughaibi, Division 3, Power and Water Finance Investment, Infrastructure Finance Group.

At the meeting, Al Tayer highlighted DEWA’s activities, projects, and achievements, and underlined the ongoing development of DEWA’s services to support its vision to become a sustainable world class utility.

He also highlighted DEWA’s investment projects, especially in the energy and water sectors, emphasising the promising opportunities in Dubai, especially in water, energy, green solutions, and green technologies for sustainable development.

The MD and CEO briefed the delegation about DEWA’s major projects, particularly two leading Public-Private Partnership projects that will use the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model. These are the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, and the Hassyan clean coal project which will produce 1,200 MW. These projects support the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030, which aims to diversify the energy mix by 2030 to include 71% from natural gas, 12% from nuclear power, 12% from clean coal, and 5% from solar power.

Al Tayer emphasised DEWA’s keenness to promote cooperation in this important investment sector for the benefit of the two sides.

The Japanese delegation briefed Al Tayer about investment opportunities that JBIC provides, especially in energy, water, green solutions and green-technology projects.
