The Chinese insurance industry’s largest annual event, the International Dragon Award has opened in Dubai; the first time it has been held in the Middle East.

With more than 5,700 delegates confirmed, the event will mark a steep rise in Chinese tourists to the emirate and is endorsed by DTCM, whose director general – and CEO of Dubai World Trade Centre – Helal Saeed Almarri, attended the opening ceremony, with Chang Hua, the Ambassador of China to the UAE and other dignitaries.

H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, was also present at the event inauguration.

The event will be a huge boost to Dubai’s international recognition as a preferred MICE destination, as well as its relevance as a destination for Chinese businesses.

Richard Wu, chairperson of the Congress said, “The reason to choose Dubai is not only because it is one of the most attractive tourism destinations, but also has a state-of-the-art business and convention centre which is equipped with the latest facilities. There is confidence that Dubai’s accessibility in terms of airlift; the number of well-designed hotels and the highest quality service standards will make the 2015 IDA Annual Meeting a successful business event.”
