Jordan, JICA sign MoU for 15-year study on kingdom’s electricity sector

Jordan’s National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on Thursday signed a cooperation agreement whereby the Japanese development agency will conduct a comprehensive study on Jordan’s electricity sector for the next 15 years.

The agreement, which will be implemented by JICA in cooperation with NEPCO, Jordan’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC) is aimed at stabilising the country’s power supply between 2015-2034.

The agreement was signed by Secretary-General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ghaleb Maabreh, NEPCO Director-General Abdel Fattah Daradkeh and EMRC Commissioner Wejdan Rabady, on behalf of Jordan, and JICA Chief Representative of JICA’s Jordan Office, Shokichi Sakata, signed the deal on behalf of JICA.

JICA’s started its contribution to the development of Jordan’s electricity sector in 1980 with a US$225 million to the kingdom, and grants to fund projects, training of engineers and technical cooperation studies.
