Leading entities to join UAE Innovation Month in Sharjah

The University of Sharjah will host the seventh edition of the UAE Innovation Month in Sharjah from Feb.14 to 18.

The UAE Innovation Month in Sharjah activities, to run from 9.00am to 3.00pm at Sharjah University Men’s College, aim to instil the values of innovation and creativity in government work, driving all sectors to achieve the goals of sustainable development in accordance with the vision of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and the supervision of Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of Sharjah Executive Council.

The Supervising Committee for the UAE Innovation Month in Sharjah is hosting 12 workshops that review the most prominent topics in innovation and creativity, in partnership with leading government organisations and private entities that will collectively present about 45 projects and initiatives that consolidate Sharjah’s global position as a centre of knowledge, innovation and creativity, and an incubator of ideas and environment for creative and talented people in the Emirate in all fields.

The activities will also see a strong participation by students from various universities and colleges in the emirate.

Ahmed Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the Supervising Committee of the UAE Innovation Month in Sharjah, said: “The UAE Innovation Month is an opportunity to highlight the most prominent innovative ideas and solutions that serve government work and facilitate the provision of services to the public.

“The platform also offers unlimited opportunities and horizons for creative excellence in environment by employing the skills of active national cadres to come up with distinguished initiatives and projects, contributing to the advancement of the government work system in accordance with the vision and directives of Sheikh Sultan.

Al Suwaidi added, “Through these events, we are keen to enhance the position of the emirate of Sharjah and the UAE as a global innovation centre by strengthening communication between innovation pioneers and motivating everyone to participate and interact with everything that would advance the various aspects of life in the emirate.”

The participation of the emirate of Sharjah in the UAE Innovation Month is part of the government’s continuous efforts to foster a culture of innovation in the government sector by celebrating creative innovators and highlighting their achievements that have made a positive change in the lives and future of individuals.

Recently, Zaki Nusseibeh, Cultural Adviser to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University, inaugurated the activities of the “UAE Innovates 2022” month virtually, WAM reported.

Present were Hessa Bint Essa Buhumaid, Minister of Community Development, Sheikha Noura Humaid Al Nuaimi, Director of Ajman X Centre, Municipality and Planning Department, United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) Higher Administration, faculty members, staff, and students.

In his address, the chancellor emphasised the university’s enthusiasm for the coming month’s activities. He explained that innovation is the origin and purpose, adding, “A university is a cradle of innovation. The primary mission of a university is to foster original thought.”

He stated, “Our undergraduate students learn that knowledge is never complete and can constantly be improved. Our graduate students investigate to find out what works and to develop better practices and concepts. Our researchers and faculty members identify new questions, new methodologies, and alternative possibilities.

“They take risks, they experiment, and they are curious. Innovation is the university’s purpose, process, and outcome, and we all share the task of improvement, of invention, and original thought.”

The chancellor reminded the audience of the importance of innovation. He said, “Human civilisation is the fruit of creativity and problem-solving. Human development is driven by the desire to improve, alleviate problems and suffering, and gain an advantage. Innovation is the gift and the duty of a human being.”
