Over 800 chefs competed in the 25th running of The International Emirates Salon Culinaire 2022 along with over 5000 visitors to the ExpoCulinaire and 1,723 international Chefs & delegates for The Worldchefs Congress 2022.

The Emirates Culinary Guild would like to announce the successful running of the 25th Emirates Salon Culinaire (ESC) 2022 from 30th May till 2nd June 2022. The Salon this year was back in its entirety an all-in-person event, for organizers and judges. Held during Expoculinaire 2022 and The 39th Worldchefs Congress 2022 with Purple Kitchen Events once again being the exhibition organizer.

To help with the proceedings the ECG invited an international team of judges that have been with the guild for many years, a team led by our old friend Otto Weibel who has now been a head judge at 24 out of our 25 competitions, along with past President of ECG Mike Lee and Past vice president Heinz Zuchelli together with the Guild President Uwe Micheel & Culinary Advisor Radisson Blu Hotel Dubai Deira Creek and the full committee of the ECG were all there to support.

The competition was held at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre ADNEC alongside the Expoculiniare exhibition and the WorldChefs congress making it an event with multiple activities happening at once over the 4 days. The venue was then enhanced digitally by complete live streaming set up by Sunjeh Raja and the team at the ICCA School in Dubai that beamed the event globally. The competition saw over 500 chefs with 500 entries from the United Arab Emirates, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan, compete in 33 classes across all disciplines of the Culinary arts, from Practical cookery, static displays, Emirati cuisine, cake decorating and Show Piece categories.

The 16 International Judges from all over the World came to judge alongside our UAE-based judges during the Culinary spectacular this year. The ESC is one of the largest Culinary competitions in Africa and Middle East region that is also endorsed by the World Association of Chefs Societies.

“The standard was extremely high once again this year even in these challenging times, “said President of the Guild Uwe Micheel & Culinary Advisor Radisson Blu Hotel Dubai Deira Creek, said” we are proud to have once again been able to put on the event and we are grateful to the supporters of the guild and to the courage of the chefs and Industry for their support and presence during the 4 days and awards ceremony of the Expo Culinaire 2022. Guild Chairman Andy Cuthbert, General Manager of Jumeirah Creekside Hotel, and Madinat Jumeirah Conference & Incentives and Jumeirah Hospitality, added “ this year’s competition was another great effort by all involved and to run alongside the Worldchefs’ Congress and their competitions were extraordinary this year and without all our industry supporters who helped to put this event on it would never have been possible to have been so successful.

The winners of the trophies this year came from hotels and industry caterers and were:

A total of, 7 Gold Medals with Distinction were given which is a fantastic result showing such high standards, 78 Gold Medals, 101 Silver Medals and 131 bronze medals were awarded during the 4 day event.

“The UAE has led the way with ExpoCulinaire 2022 being run alongside Worldchefs Congress 2022. We made the most of the strengths of all the individual parts of both competitions, Exhibition and Congress to bring a truly complete food and beverage event to the capital ” said Joanne Cook, MD of Purple Kitchen Events. “To be able to maintain our commitment to chefs and to education was essential. Our certified education sessions have become a pillar of the overall event so to deliver them in 2022 thanks to ICCA Dubai, Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management and Richemont Masterbaker was an excellent added value for all our audience, we will welcome back our physical exhibitors at ExpoCulinaire 2022 as it ran alongside the Worldchefs Congress 2022 from 30th May to 2nd June in Abu Dhabi – after a 4 year gap in a worldwide gathering, we were able to deliver our grand plans as promised” concluded Cook.
