UAE airlines suspend flights from India effective today

UAE airlines have stopped flights from India to Dubai with effect from April 24, travel agents have confirmed.   

The move comes into being after India has been reporting an explosion of coronavirus cases.

Over 314,000 infections in the past 24 hours raise India’s total past 15.9 million cases since the pandemic began. It’s the second-highest total in the world next to the United States. India has nearly 1.4 billion people.

A statement read, “Effective April 24 SAT, 2359LT Dubai, and for the next 10days subject to further review, carriage of passengers from India will be suspended. Passengers who have transited through India in the last 14 days are not permitted to board from any other point to the UAE.

“Passengers should contact their respective Travel Agent.”

Emirates and flyDubai have all suspended flights from India.

Gulf Today staffers tried to book tickets during the concerned days, the airlines pages showed no available flights.

Earlier, the UAE airlines updated their    COVID‑19 testing requirements.

The passengers were told to take a COVID‑19 PCR test not more than 48 hours before departure.

However, now no flights are available for a period on 10 days on health grounds.

The authorities are analysing the situation and will update according to the circumstances.
