Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court and Chairman of the Higher Corporation for Specialised Economic Zones (ZonesCorp), today inaugurated the Gulf Fluor’s fluorides complex at the Industrial City of Abu Dhabi (ICAD).

Sheikh Hamed cut the red traditional ribbon and then took a tour of the state-of-the-art complex accompanied by Hamad bin Suhail Al Khaili, Chairman of Gulf Fluor, a leading Abu Dhabi-based chemical manufacturer, Owaida bin Hamad Al Khaili, CEO of Gulf Fluor, members of the company’s board and senior officials at ZonesCorp.

Sprawling over 300,000 square metre, the new AED 1.5 billion complex will have the capacity to produce 140,000 tonnes of sulphuric acid per year, 54,000 tonnes of hydrogen fluoride (HF) and 60,000 tonnes of aluminium fluoride (AlF3).

The technology for the production of the AlF3 and the anhydrous HF was provided by major Swiss and British companies.

Owaida bin Hamad Al Khaili, the CEO of Gulf Fluor, said the plant, the first of its kind in the Middle East, was designed and built to produce eco-friendly products and meets the requirements of the general policy agenda of the Government of Abu Dhabi and its Economic Vision 2030.
