Dubai Internet City (DIC), the Middle East and North Africa’s largest ICT hub, will host a two-day programme by the world-renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) on Digital Innovation, on 4-5 August 2014 in Dubai. This is the first time that the programme will be held in the Middle East, and demonstrates the rapid growth of digital innovation in the region.

Led by Dr. Sanjay Sarma, Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Director of Digital Learning at MIT, the course is held in partnership with Eruditus Executive Education and aims to give participants the opportunity to heighten their understanding of key technology trends applicable to the business world.

Comprising of a series of eight sessions spread over the two days in addition to individual interactions with Dr. Sarma, the Digital Innovation programme seeks to identify and evaluate new innovation products and businesses; assist participants in devising corporate plans for innovation and new product generation; encourage critical thinking in dealing with challenges in technology, product, sales, marketing and financing; and further our understanding of the processes required to successfully set up IP strategy.

Commenting on the programme, Majed Al Suwaidi, Managing Director of DIC and Dubai Outsource Zone (DOZ), as well as being a guest speaker at the event, said: “We are delighted to welcome Dr. Sarma from MIT to Dubai for the first time. Dubai Internet City is committed to driving Dubai’s development as a knowledge-based economy, and opportunities such as this will significantly contribute to the ongoing development of the regional technology sector. MIT is a prime example of educational excellence, and we look forward to building a strong relationship with the institution going forward.” Mrs. Anna Schebsdat, Regional Director at Eruditus Executive Education, added: “The growth ambitions of companies in the Middle East are rapidly increasing. We expect growth to become even more innovation-dependent, with success coming to those companies taking advantage of innovative products, services, processes, and business models in order to gain a competitive advantage, stay at the forefront of change, and create new markets for their products and services. The objective of this class is to cover the most salient features of innovation in the modern world and to lay out the philosophy, tools, procedures, and incentives that an organisation can adopt to drive innovation.”
