TRA releases aeDA data on UAE registrar market share

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, TRA, has released the .ae Domain Administration’s (aeDA) data on the UAE’s registrar market share, unveiling the .ae domain name registration for the period between January and August.

Through this step, the TRA aims to encourage local businesses to optimise the use of national domain names, which are currently witnessing the highest registration rate among top level domain names in the Middle East and North Africa with a record 124,000 .ae registered domain names.

Etisalat, which recently launched its e-registration system, recorded the largest share of new domain names registered under the national domain.ae among other accredited registrars, followed by Tasjeel.ae which ranked second and AESERVER in third place.

The released data also reveals the share of each accredited service provider on the international level, where Etisalat continues to have the largest market share of 65.5%, followed by Instra Corporation 9.5%, and AESERVER 4.4%. Other accredited registrars had 20.6% of the market share. There are now 21 accredited registrars with the aeDA registry in the UAE.

The data also shows that “Tasjeel.ae” has the top growth rate of 52 percent between January and August this year, followed by AESERVER at 31.9 percent, 101Domain Inc. at 17 percent, Instra Corporation Pty Ltd at 13.9 percent and IP Mirror at 7.7 percent.

“The level of advancements achieved by the UAE in the national domain spectrum is very promising, particularly in supporting Arabic content on the Internet and promoting the spread of Arabic websites. And as we approach the World Arabic Language Day assigned by the United Nations on the 18th of December, I would like to stress that the TRA is working diligently to support Arabic content on the ICT network through a variety of initiatives and projects, most importantly the UAE national domain name,” said Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, Director-General UAE mGovernment.

“We expect continued growth in the number of registrations due to the advantages of the national .ae domain name that attracts Internet users and the improved performance of accredited registrars,” commented Mohammad Al Zarooni, Acting Executive Director, Policies and Programme in the TRA.

The .ae Domain Administration was established in 2007 by the TRA as the regulatory body and registry operator for the .ae domain name. aeDA is responsible for enforcing all policies on the operation of the .ae country code Top Level Domain as well as overseeing the operation of the registry system.
