HE Minister of Information and Communications Technology Dr. Hessa Al Jaber announced Sunday that the Ministry is currently working on a project to establish a Digital Cluster in Abu Fintas area.
HE the Minister, who was speaking at the opening ceremony of ITU Telecom World 2014 conference, added that the focus of the project will be on encouraging local and foreign small and medium enterprises to develop integrative solutions by harnessing the power of big data analytics internet of Things, artificial intelligence and other new technologies that will offer rapid and crucial solutions to developing sectors such as health, education, transportation, renewable energy and banking and tourism services among others.
HE the Minister revealed also that the focus of the ministry in coming years will be on implementing some strategic and pivotal programs that would contribute to diversifying the economy. Another goal, HE the Minister added would be to support other sectors that are witnessing a rapid growth.
This dictates that the Ministry develops “the investment climate necessary to build a vibrant ICT sector by developing a set of integrated policies, legislation and mechanisms to regulate the financing of emerging companies and attract academic and technical expertise,” HE the Minister added.
Furthermore, HE the Minister said that the ICT sector is part of the Qatar National Vision 2030 for building a knowledge-based economy. As a result, the ministry remains committed to implementing projects for the 2020 smart electronic government, cybersecurity and digital inclusion.

HE Dr. Jaber said that the rapid development in the field of technology makes the future of ICT seem “more ambiguous and complex now than ever before.” She added that it would be difficult to foresee what future societies would look like with the emergence of new technologies every day. She added that this year’s event present an opportunity to adopt new plans, strategies and methodologies in order to better benefit from this second digital revolution.

Despite the infinite opportunities that the new digital age provide, HE the Minister said, there remain some challenges. The emergence of the smart city concept, led to the start of a truly interconnected ecosystem where ICT is converging with other sectors such as logistics, transportation, health, banking, education, finance and media.
