Saudi capital Riyadh will get 2.8 million cubic meters of water a day around the clock by next year.

Riyadh currently gets 2.2 million cubic meters of water daily thanks to projects supported by Riyadh Governor Prince Turki bin Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

“Support has been given to the water and electricity sectors through the use of advanced technology and the adoption of international standards,” the prince said in a statement to the Saudi Press Agency.

More than 950,000 cubic meters of water is drawn from wells inside and outside Riyadh, while 200,000 cubic meters are supplied by emergency projects at the National Water Company (NWC).

There were more than 1.8 million subscribers to the Saudi Electric Company (SEC), which covers 1,394 cities, towns, villages and other settlements in the province, by the end of June this year.

With a huge network of 215 switching stations, 219 major distribution stations and 89,000 substations, power is supplied through 96,000 km of cables and overhead lines.

Several other projects are ongoing in these vital fields under the direct follow-up of the Riyadh governor.

The prince thanked Saudi leaders for their support for water and electricity sectors in the region.
