The UAE’s agriculture sector is to receive a boost through the implementation of modern technology and observations of best practice from East Asia.

To gain insights in the field of agriculture and aquaculture, H.E. Eng. Mariam Saeed Hareb, acting assistant undersecretary for the Water Resources and Nature Conservation Department at the UAE Ministry of Environment, has visited China, Japan and Taiwan.

The visit, which took part last week, was also a part of cooperation deal signed by the ministry with Horin Inc to promote the use of modern technology for UAE’s agriculture sector.

The visit observed the latest scientific studies in the field of fish farming and aquaculture.

H.E. Hareb said that when it comes to the environment, it is important to cooperate at local as well as international levels. By learning global best practices and policies, she explained, sustainability could be enhanced.

She said that the ministry is seeking to harness scientific research in various fields in order to find alternative solutions to fulfill water needs for the agricultural sector, rationalise water consumption for the local population, and preserve the UAE’s water resources.
