Sustainable and green designs are to be highlighted in upcoming Leaders in Design MENA summit this year.

In an interview with Construction Business News ME, Saeed Al Abbar said that there is an increasing knowledge and understanding in the region of what green projects are.

“Today, we see significant strides being taken in the region to promote energy-efficiency in the built environment. Authorities throughout the GCC are increasingly implementing regulations and rating systems that are setting high standards for new construction projects and throughout the industry.

“In the UAE particularly, a focus on sustainability has become part of the country’s philosophy, regulations, standards and practices.”

As a crucial topic during the summit, sustainable design has gone from a novelty approach practiced by a few select designers for an enlightened group of clients, to an indispensable consideration of the design process among all firms, big and small.

“Leaders in Design MENA offers an opportunity for design professionals from around the globe to discuss current issues, challenges and market trends, especially their impact on future development and the design profession in the MENA region. I believe both the programmes line up and the spontaneous conversations that follow will spark a lot of ideas and definitely inspire every one of us,” said Michael Fowler, managing director of AEDAS Middle East

As the region takes over the global design and architecture industry, principal and managing director of the HKS Architects Francis Gallagher said that the forum acts as a platform for the region’s driving elite of the real estate industry to connect with new potential business partners and develop valuable relationships. “It is a great opportunity to share our vast experience with other professionals as well as to take the pulse of the region.”

Organised by the International Business Council, Leaders in Design MENA will take place in November 15 to 16 in Dubai. The event will include speakers with extensive experience working in some of the most iconic projects across the MENA region.
